The Ultimate Guide For Your Wedding At Anderson House

A historic mansion with a European feel

Why Does The Anderson House Rank Among The Top Wedding Destinations In Washington DC?

There are many mansions in Washington DC where one can hold their wedding ceremony. Those in search of a mansion location suitable for an Editorial Style wedding in DC might want to consider the Larz Anderson House, also known as the Society of the Cincinnati.

A breathtaking mansion situated on Embassy Row within the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington, DC, the Larz Anderson House offers a number of amazing settings for every type of wedding ceremony and reception.

A Lavish Ballroom: Elegant, Opulent, And Classical

With its French influence, the luxurious ballroom can comfortably accommodate 130 guests for dinners and dancing. Guests entering this ballroom are greeted by a floating staircase, marble floors and columns, and stunning chandeliers hanging from the high ceiling.

As part of Anderson House's architecture and decoration, Society of the Cincinnati symbols are incorporated, including an Eagle insignia on the Ballroom ceiling. A Steinway baby grand piano and Asian art are also found in the two-story room.

A gorgeous winter garden overlooks the ballroom, the perfect backdrop for a couple's portrait. This space can be used for elopements, intimate ceremonies, and additional space for dining, and it is an ideal location for portraits. A walled, enclosed garden is visible through the windows and doors.

Winter Garden

As you stroll through the Winter Garden, you will see murals depicting Anderson's favorite driving routes in Washington, D.C., as well as the gardens at their estate in Massachusetts.

A Garden With A European Influence: The Hoyt Garden

The Hoyt Gardens would make the ideal setting for an outdoor wedding ceremony. There are stone terraces, sculptures, and an elegant reflecting pool flanking the well-kept lawn. A peaceful sanctuary in the middle of the city with its green and white striped awnings to go with its lovely gardens.

Reflective lanterns line the poolside of the reflecting pool and are a great way to illuminate and enliven this area without detracting from its natural beauty.

This gorgeous and inviting venue can host weddings of any size, with both expansive views and more intimate spaces.

What other Washington venue has a soaring ballroom with an impressive flying marble staircase perfect for an impressive entrance? There aren't many walled gardens in Washington that boast a reflecting pool, a three-hundred-year-old Japanese Buddha, and Washington's oldest magnolia trees. It is unique to find a mansion in Washington with the initials of the couple who built it intertwined in its decorations. When choosing a venue for an event once in a lifetime, why not consider an unforgettable, unique venue?

Great Stair Hall

There is a monumental work by Jose Villegas titled The Triumph of the Dogaressa that can be found overlooking the Great Stair Hall and the formal staircase leading to the 2nd floor.

Olmsted Gallery

This elegant hall connects the reception rooms to the Dining Room on one end and displays some of the Andersons' largest collections on the other.

English Drawing Room

Originally Isabel Anderson's study, the English Drawing Room was named for its paintings of the seventeenth- and eighteenth centuries.

Key Room

This room is surrounded by murals charting iconic events in American history.

French Drawing Room

The French Drawing Room is decorated with a mixture of French furniture, Flemish tapestries, and Asian curios.

Musicians Gallery

The Musicians Gallery is adjacent to the Dining Room and overlooks the Ballroom.

Dining Room

At formal meals, the Andersons seated as many as thirty guests in the Dining Room, surrounded by 17th-century Flemish tapestries.

Today, this room serves as a cocktail hour lounge.

Choir Stall Room

Anderson House's Choral Stall Room hosted guests as they entered the house through this anteroom, which was rimmed with Italian choir stalls. The walls were decorated with murals of societies' insignia.

East Stair Hall

As the oldest historical society in the United States, the Society of the Cincinnati was established in 1783 to preserve the memories of the American Revolution. East Stair Hall furnishings reflect the Society's founding and purpose, from a statuette of Cincinnatus to portraits of its past presidents.

Original Library

Today, the room is used for waiting areas for the bridal party and the bride and groom during their wedding reception.
