Built in 1926, the Biltmore Hotel is an icon of the Jazz age. It was built as part of the Biltmore Hotel chain, but by 1996, its rich history had set it apart as a landmark all its own. In 1996, it was designated a National Landmark for the role it played as both a hospital during WWII (the Army Air Forces Regional Hospital) and as part of the University of Miami medical school in 1968. It was restored to its hotel hospitality role in 1987. In addition to being known for its iconic and luxurious architectural style, it is famous for hosting such notable guests as the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Al Capone, Bing Crosby, and Ginger Rodgers.
